This charming family - the very definition of winsome - with their delightfully happy babe, adoring + musical papa, and effortlessly chic charismatic mama, won my IG giveaway and likewise, my heart.

Thanks guys, for entering the contest, for your warm welcome, and for just being your winsome selves. It was a true pleasure photographing you beautiful souls.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who entered, I hope to get a chance to photograph all of you some day.

new little life

Welcome home, baby boy...

My favourite kind of session, right here. The newborn days. At home. When time slows gorgeously down, and the days and nights flow together with no discernible separation, and your entire focus is soaking in this incredible person you've made!

Here's where I love to come in and capture your babes delicate features, his personality traits, the way he sleeps with arms raised, furrows his brow, or the way he stares up at you while in your arms, for you to remember.

home, with you

love + connection in and around your home. there is nothing better, m'friends.

I just want to play. Explore. And, allow YOU guys to do the same! Be your carefree selves and enjoy one another... have fun and love on one another, while I capture it all. Because that's what this is all about, right? LIVING life. LOVING one another. I'll be sure to be on the look-out for pretty light, in and around your home. I'll set the stage for lovely photographs, but I allow - and encourage - REAL moments to happen. So you, and your children, can look back on these images with all dem feels. The heart and soul of HOME.

Twelve days new

Twelve days earth side, and already so full of personality, unique to her.

It's no wonder, these days are full of quiet observation. Listening to her sounds, marvelling at her kicks and extensions, how she snuggles up like a  ball, or how she gazes - so alert and purposefully - at mommy & daddy, and how her absolute favourite place to be is snug in their arms.

Welcome to the world, little love.

Shake it up

Pssst.... I've got some news to share.

I'm shaking things up over here for Spring & Summer!

Being a mom and a hard working lady boss, I'm constantly juggling the many hats I wear, and while I've managed to balance both mothering + bossing smoothly up until now, I've recently realized we've come to a pivotal time in my family life where i'm needed much more at home. In particular, focusing on the development of my kiddos. Without writing a novel, or getting into too many personal details, let's talk about what this means for the next little while.

From May through September, I'm taking limited photo sessions. TWO family photo session's per month! Crazy, I know! Especially in busy season when the sun be shining, the weather be warm, and colours be bursting all around us. But, this is how it's gonna be.

SO! Two session's per month!

I won't be doing mini's of any kind during this time frame. These'll be Lifestyle sessions - taken within your own loving home full of heart & soul with a second outdoor location close by. We can wander into your backyard, the woods, a field, or wherever you guys like to hang as a family! Or if you'd rather do the whole session outdoors, in a place that means something to you, that's cool too! As a bonus, while the majority of photos will be taken digitally, I'll be bringing my film camera along for fun, to capture some heartfelt gold on FILM!   (ps. All the photos you see here in this blog post were taken on 35mm film.)

Alright, m'friends, if you wanna get in on this, drop me a line. Once the spots are filled, I'm really sorry, but I cannot open up any more space. Right now, I'm sporting my mother hat - all wide brimmed & woven - for this season of my little one's lives. Making more time to foster and shape their growth, leaving me less time to edit, and resulting in fewer shoots. I'm actually very excited to embark on a more dedicated and structured "teaching / leading" path with the children that I've only just begun and have already seen so many improvements.

Thanks so much for understanding and as soon as BOTH kids are in school full time this September (what! where did the time go?!), I'll be back to my regular scheduling.

And, now I will leave you here with some film photos of my babes.

love is all you need

TRUTH: All you need is love, m'friends!

Your family session might be as smooth as a strawberry milkshake on a warm summer's day. Or,  it may be closer to a rocky road ice-cream, which is just as delicious (maybe even more so). The point is, expect yourselves to run a little late, for juice to spill on someones outfit, for hair not to co-operate and for tears to pour. It's probably gonna happen. Hey, maybe ALL of this will happen at once. ;) But, ya know... that's life, right? It's ALL GOOD.

The important thing here - and what I want to emphasize is - I roll with it. I make it extremely easy to feed off my mellow vibe and embrace whatever happens. I'm all about honest photography. There's beauty in tears, in quiet moments when children are staring off into space, in getting a kiddo changed out of a soiled shirt, in comforting your baby when he's crying, in laughing with your partner at life. It makes my heart soar when I get to photograph that truth and celebrate all the many facets that make up our day to day home life.

Keep in mind, the chaotic moments don't last long. One minute a child is crying and the next they're laughing uncontrollably. And, I'm constantly on the ready to capture it all. The full, beautiful, genuine story. Who know's... if you're anything like me - that photo of you comforting your tearful baby may be the one you wanna frame. The one that pulls on your heartstrings and you happen to linger on with love filled eyes.

Just remember darlings, "All you need is love, love. Love is all you need."

If you're in the Greater Hamilton Area and you want to talk about getting genuine, heartfelt, family photos taken, drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you.

FREEDOM | personal

Oh, you know, just soaking up that delicious, warm, summer sun on our skin. Feeling the wind in our hair. Waking with the sun and crashing with the moon. Paying zero attention to rules and routine, while we act on impulse and follow our hearts.

There are no rules... such a liberating notion. Just freedom. Which for me, means exploring harsh light, odd angles, and deliberate blur. It also means sharing my personal work, because hello! I'm the boss and what I say goes 'round here. ;) Also, this totally qualifies - Family Photography is my jam and this - right here - is my little famjam. Taken at The Pinery Provincial Park last week.

Freedom pretty much fuels my drive to capture our moments. And, yours too, if you let me.

This is childhood, unplugged.

Delicate Seed

Walking into this families home last month, I found their kitchen table covered in small potted plants & egg cartons filled with freshly sprouting seeds, just waiting to be planted into their garden. It put a smile on my face.

While going through their images, I couldn't help but think of little seeds, so tiny and humble. One seed can grow into an entire forest. Just as one seed, implanted, can grow a human being! From there, a family, a country, a world of people.

Maaaaaybe I've got campfire discussions on my mind, but it seriously blows me away. Creation. Where we are in this entire universe, how we've come to exist, how we've evolved, how we're capable of re-creating, and growing a whole 'nother person within us! It's incredible and it never gets old. Each and every time I meet another newborn, I'm filled with a sense of amazement at life's greatest miracle.

Someone, pass me a s'more!

Happy Mother's Day

Her warm hugs, her encouraging smile, her knowing glances... her quiet comfort. That generous comfort you seek even into adulthood, forever strong and engulfing. There's nothing quite like a mother's love. And, to have felt that love from a mom and as a mom... I can't even properly articulate what that means to me. But, what I can say, is thank you. To my mother for everything she has done for our family as we grew up, and all that she still does for my sisters and I, and our children.

And, thank you to all the mothers who came out for my Mother's Day Mini Sessions. It warmed my heart to see you with your families, to capture the tenderness, the laughs, and the play with your favourite people. Happy Mother's Day!

When kisses flow freely, without backhanded wipes. Little soft hands reach to grasp yours. Curious questions and funny conversations keep you and your partner endlessly entertained. These are the days!

Maybe it's my nostalgic nature, or my crazy obsession with family, but every time I meet families in their homes, I leave with a gigantic smile on my face and the sweetest feelings of home wrap me up like a warm blanket. I know, I know... sounds corny, but it's true.

Spending the afternoon with this family, had me reminiscing to what home feels like as a kid. Remember that?! Remember the fierce love for your mother and father? The loyal friendships and devotion towards your siblings? The magnificent comfort, free of worries and responsibility?

These girls looked up to their father with SUCH admiration and clung to their mother like cubs to a mama bear. And, what I loved most, was catching glimpses of tenderness between mama and papa while I worked, one on one, with the kiddos. It's apparent there is no where in the world they'd rather be, than home, with one another.

Photographing these sweet, innocent days, what home looks like for you -- is the best job in the world -- and, one I feel honoured to do. If you're in the area, and wanna capture some family hangs in your home, gimme a shout! I'd love to come over!

These guys know how to rock an outdoor session in cold weather, m'friends. Families take note: This little group came prepared with a thermos full of hot tea, fuzzy hot-water heating pads for the kids to hug during off-camera time, blankets galore, AND they managed to dress warm while looking damn good doing so. Bonus points rewarded for not being matchy-matchy!

Well done, my friends, well done.

YES. Gimme more of this. Right here. Show me your love, your embrace, the way you fit together. Let's capture your beautiful interactions - the way you make eachother laugh, how your eyes sparkle when you look at one another, and how you hold hands & dream of that little being you are bringing into this world. This is what is so addicting for me, what I love about photography, and what has me craving mooooore.

This session, in all its moody glory, almost didn't happen. It was a foul October day, and I was considering cancelling due to the weather. Yet this beautiful couple insisted we roll with it, and I'm SO glad we did. We ventured to the Scarborough Bluffs and Marina where Evan's parents have a boat and they spend a lot of time in the summer. Despite enduring whipping winds, stormy clouds, and some light rain, these two amazing souls kept a focus so strong on one another, it warmed me to the core, making this one of my favourite maternity sessions to date.

Let's get together and capture your real, honest connections... and nothing else. No props, no arbitrary themes. Just a focus on your love, your family, your lives here and now, in this moment. You down?

Here's some maternity goodness taken on a mild winter day. Thank you, mother nature, for this exceptionally mellow December we just had. I can't remember a more forgiving Canadian winter than this, and I have a feeling it's a sign for things to come with this baby. Here's to having a beautiful, balmy, sweet-natured bundle!

And, now, for more photos of this babe with babe...

If you're in the Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, Burlington area and you're looking for someone to capture you + your expanding family in-home, drop me a line! I'd love to meet you!

Sometimes you have to go out on a creative limb. Explore those areas within you that you'd rather edge away from, where safety and comfort is juuuuust outside your reach. Sometimes you need to be vulnerable, wear your heart on your sleeve, take risks and ask a favour. From people you barely know. Hard, right? Because it's the only way you're able to grow and set yourself free. Because deep down you know if you do, if you push past boundaries, those queasy doubts and fears of rejection and looking foolish and wondering if anyone else 'gets' you, and just do what YOU want to do, something beautiful happens.

And sometimes, your wacky invitation will be met. And, not only will they dig your vision, but they'll join your tribe. They'll bring all their heart and soul with them; their music, their dance, their laughter, and their play. They'll be fully present, in the moment, and truly enjoy themselves, making the most of that little flash of time together. And THAT, my friends, is what I long for. It's what fills me up. What makes my heart sing, and what I want to dedicate my working life to. Capturing genuine, lovely, natural family moments that'll stand the test of time.

If you are in the Hamilton area, looking for heartfelt family photos with a little more... spirit... more energy... more life... more of YOU GUYS... gimme a shout. I'd love to meet you.

Last month I sought out this beautiful mother & daughter duo for a personal project. I was looking for a chance to experiment with shooting in a home similar to my first house; a small mid-century bungalow... a home I terribly miss. You see, it doesn't matter how big or current your home is, what matters is it's your home, your haven. Full of love, and pieces of you, full of memories made, and in the making. And, it can be just as beautiful a location to capture your family as any.

These two welcomed me warmly, and I couldn't be happier...

This frame could not be any more true for these guys. And, in my opinion it's the best kinda home to have. Where loud laughter is abundant, silliness is encouraged, craziness lurks, and fun times are always to be had. There's never a dull moment with these beautiful people.
